Approximate Entropy as a measure of complexity in sap flow temporal dynamics of two tropical tree species under water deficit Anais da ABC (AABC)
Souza,Gustavo M.; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Santos,Mauro G.; Ribeiro,Henrique L.; Oliveira,Ricardo F..
Approximate Entropy (ApEn), a model-independent statistics to quantify serial irregularities, was used to evaluate changes in sap flow temporal dynamics of two tropical species of trees subjected to water deficit. Water deficit induced a decrease in sap flow of G. ulmifolia, whereas C. legalis held stable their sap flow levels. Slight increases in time series complexity were observed in both species under drought condition. This study showed that ApEn could be used as a helpful tool to assess slight changes in temporal dynamics of physiological data, and to uncover some patterns of plant physiological responses to environmental stimuli.

Changes in network connectance and temporal dynamics of gas exchange in Citrus sinensis under different evaporative demands Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Souza,Gustavo M.; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Pincus,Steven M..
Stomatal aperture is an essential factor both in regulation of transpiration and net photosynthesis. This regulation is especially important in the response of plants to drought or to an increase in leaf-to-air vapor pressure difference (VPD); however, such a regulation is part of a complex dynamical environment, associated with multiple regulatory pathways. Accordingly, we studied the effects of VPD on gas exchange of Citrus sinensis via the evaluation of two complementary analytic approaches, to approach an understanding of the full scope of the system interactions. First, we used classical statistical methodologies, e.g., means, coefficient of variation, and linear correlation. Second, we used measures developed for more model-independent applications,...

Crescimento de plantas jovens de limeira ácida 'Tahiti' sob lâminas de irrigação REA
Alves Júnior,José; Silva,Cláudio R. da; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Silva,Tonny J. A. da; Folegatti,Marcos V..

Development, yield and quality attributes of sugarcane cultivars fertigated by subsurface drip irrigation AGRIAMBI
Silva,André L. B. de O.; Pires,Regina C. M.; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Machado,Eduardo C.; Blain,Gabriel C.; Ohashi,Augusto Y. P..
ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the development, yield and quality of four sugarcane cultivars fertigated by subsurface drip system. The experiment was carried out in Campinas-SP, Brazil, from January 2012 to November 2013, with the cultivars SP79-1011, IACSP94-2101, IACSP94-2094 and IACSP95-5000 subjected to daily irrigations. The irrigations depths were applied to bring soil moisture to field capacity. Soil moisture was monitored using soil moisture probes. Samples were collected along the crop cycle in order to evaluate crop development and yield, at the end of the first and second ratoons. Stalk height showed good correlation for the estimation of crop yield, with R2 equal to or higher than 0.96. The cultivar IACSP95-5000 showed the...

Foliar phosphorus supply and CO2 assimilation in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under water deficit Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Santos,Mauro G. dos; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Teixeira,Marcelo G.; Oliveira,Ricardo F. de; Pimentel,Carlos.
Two common bean cultivars were grown in pots under greenhouse conditions. Plants were submitted to a foliar Pi spray two days before suspending irrigation, what enhanced net CO2 assimilation rate of Ouro Negro cultivar but did not change significantly the photosynthesis of Carioca cultivar under both water deficit and rehydration periods. The results revealed that a foliar Pi spray induced an up-regulation of photosynthesis in common bean under mild water deficit, with this effect being genotype-dependent.

Photosynthetic responses of four tropical tree species grown under gap and understorey conditions in a semi-deciduous forest Rev. Bras. Bot.
Souza,Gustavo M.; Sato,Agnaldo M.; Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Prado,Carlos Henrique B. A..
Leaf CO2 assimilation (A) as a function of photosynthetic photon flux density (Q) or intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements were carried out on four tropical woody species growing in forest gap and understorey (Bauhinia forficata Link. and Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. as pioneers, and Hymenaea courbaril L. and Esenbeckia leiocarpa Engl. as non-pioneers). Chlorophyll fluorescence indicated similar acclimation capacities of photochemical apparatus to contrasting light environments irrespective to plant species. Maximum CO2 assimilation and quantum yield derived from A/Q curves indicated higher photosynthetic capacity in pioneer than in non-pioneer species in forest gap. However, the differences among species did not show a...

Some aspects of citrus ecophysiology in subtropical climates: re-visiting photosynthesis under natural conditions Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Ribeiro,Rafael V.; Machado,Eduardo C..
In this review we re-visit and discuss the current knowledge on ecophysiology of citrus trees, addressing the influence of environmental conditions on citrus photosynthesis. Knowledge of physiological responses of citrus trees to their surrounding environment is essential in order to improve crop production and plant development, both being consequences of appropriate horticultural management in citrus orchards. In this context, citrus photosynthesis is addressed as the primary source of carbon and energy for plant growth and development. The photosynthetic activity on both a daily and a seasonal scale is reviewed, taking into consideration the physiological aspects related to seasonal variation of photochemical and biochemical activities, stomatal...
